Walking home from work through Fitzroy Gardens I saw a crop of mushrooms just near the middle bridge, under some of the huge old elm trees.
On close inspection, they had white gills (see photo)
Confirmed death cap mushroom (Amanita phalloides), where as little as 1 mushroom can cause severe liver failure and kill an adult. There is no cure or antidote once consumed and in the liver.
Also found nearby were some field mushrooms (dark brown gills) which may be safe to eat.
Timely advice never to eat any mushrooms picked in the wild, especially from Fitzroy Gardens and any of the parks around here.
