Hi Jemma, yes unfortunately, completely normal!
The local mobile towers are not designed for 100,000 connections, hence during big football games at the 'G, you are competing with all that extra traffic.
You should be o.k. now, until the cricket starts!

MCG is a known "high traffic" area, basically Telstra (and Optus) cannot meet demand for 3G services-

Solution: Get a home internet service (ADSL2+) over your phone line. We are ~1 km from the Collingwood exchange and I get great speeds from TPG. (tpg.com.au)
